The Tanyard Youth Propject
In July 2005 the Welsh Assembly Government approved funding totalling 65 000.00 for the Monkton Communities First Partnership to employ a full time Youth Development Worker for the ward.
The service would extend the Tanyard's Youth Service to a greater proportion of Monkton's young people. This would be done at the Tanyard and also by outreach in Monkton in the form of a weekly youth club.

Approximately 187 young people from the community were members of the youth project, which was based in neighbouring Pembroke a ten minute walk from Monkton. Thirty five young people from Monkton enrolled on the POPPI Project, an alternative curriculum accredited learning project, which ran from the Tanyard.

Where this post has achieved its biggest success is in the confidence building of the young people, ensuring that they have access and knowledge of all the information on youth services that young people in more affluent areas may take for granted. The emphasis was also on keeping physically active and getting involved in the community.
