Monkton Young Savers Scheme Set Up
A great project has been established between members of the Monkton Communities First Partnership. Facilitated by the Communities First support team; Monkton Priory School, Haven Credit Union and community representatives have joined together to form a Young Savers Scheme for juniors.
This was developed in response to the Monkton Communities First Engagement Strategy developed last year by the Partnership. The first week saw nearly two dozen sign up and it's hoped many more will. The aims of the Saving Scheme is to promote a financially responsible ethos amongst the children, encorage members of the public to volunteer and it is hoped encourage the parents of the children to see credit unions as a viable way to save and borrow responsibly and at a low cost.

Childcare Career Morning
Monkton Communities First hosted an information morning at Monkton School for people who have an interest in a career in childcare. The Welsh Assembly estimates that an extra 2000 LSAs need to be employed by schools in the nation. This will have an impact on all childcare provision including childminding and playgroups as it is expected staff will be recruited as LSAs in schools. Representatives from the Children's Information Service and National Childminding Association were on hand to offer guidance and advice to interested parties. For more information on the help available to residents in Monkton looking for help with employment contact Dylan.

The purpose of the event was to raise the awareness of older people of support organisations who are able to offer advice on issues affecting people 50 years and over.
